| Background | AIDS, Population and Health Integrated Assistance Project (APHIA) II seeks to improve the health of Kenyans. This project is funded by the United States government, primarily the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) from June 2006 – December 2010. The program focuses efforts to build capacity among various partners, ensure quality of activities, scale up to reach populations across the region, monitor and evaluate progress, mobilize resources, and plan for exit at the end of the project. Technical approaches used enable use of expanded and integrated service provision, and mobilize populations to strategically adopt healthy behaviors. Below is a diagram explaining the overall APHIA II strategy for Coast Region. In each of the priority communities, APHIA II seeks to ensure that: - The community, public and private sectors in work in partnership
- OVCS are supported to get education and lead normal healthy lives
- The community is at the fore-front of drug and alcohol abuse eradication
- There is increased access and utilization of HIV and AIDS, TB, RH/FH and MCH services
- PLWHAS have access to palliative care
- There is reduction of stigma and Gender Based Violence(GBV)
APHIA II will target three key results: - Result Area 1: Improved and expanded facility-based HIV/AIDS, TB, RH/FP, Malaria and MCH services
- Result Area 2: Improved and expanded civil society activities to increase healthy behaviors
- Result Area 3: Improved and expanded care and support for people and families affected by HIV/AIDS
